Gearing Up for World Cup 2014: La Copa de la Vide (Cup Of Life)

June 10th, 2014

World Cup 2014 is almost here and I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

I will be incorporating World Cup-related music into my Zumba classes all World Cup long (June 12 – July 13, 2014). The fourth song I’m including is an oldie but a goodie from FIFA World Cup 1998 and it is La Copa de la Vide (Cup of Life) by Ricky Martin. This is the “Ricky Martin World Cup Song.” La Copa de la Vide is actually pre- “Living la Vida Loca” Ricky Martin. You’ll probably know it once you hear it, but you may not have known it was the official song of 1998 FIFA World Cup:

“Tú y yo
ale, ale, ale
Go, go, go
ale, ale, ale”

Or in the English version:

“Here we go
ale, ale, ale
Go, go, go
ale, ale, ale”

Do yourself a favor and watch Ricky’s sweet hips in this video and then incorporate La Copa de la Vide into your June and July Zumba playlists!

Gearing Up for World Cup 2014: Wavin’ Flag

June 10th, 2014

World Cup 2014 is almost here and I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

I will be incorporating World Cup-related music into my Zumba classes all World Cup long (June 12 – July 13, 2014). The third song I’m including is again from FIFA World Cup 2010 and it is Wavin’ Flag by K’naan. I know it as the “World Cup Flag Song.” The laid back beats of this song work best as a warm up or cool down. Check out the video if you like. The lyrics are very symbolic and inspirational as well:

Give me freedom, give me fire, give me reason, take me higher
See the champions, take the field now, you define us, make us feel proud

In the streets our heads are lifting, as we lose our inhibition,
Celebration, it’s around us, every nations, all around us

Singing forever young, singing songs underneath that sun
Let’s rejoice in the beautiful game,
and together at the end of the day.
We all say,

[Chorus:]
When I get older
I will be stronger
They’ll call me ‘Freedom’
Just like a wavin’ flag
And then it goes back, and then it goes back
And then it goes back, and then it goes…

Born to a throne, stronger than Rome
But violent-prone, poor people zone,

But it’s my home, all I have known,
Where I got grown, streets we would roam

Out of the darkness, I came the farthest
Among the hardest survival
Learn from these streets, it can be bleak,
Accept no defeat, surrender retreat

[Bridge:]
So we strugglin’
Fightin’ to eat
And we wonderin’
When we’ll be free
So we patiently wait
For that fateful day
It’s not far away,
But for now we say:

[Chorus]

So many wars, settlin’ scores,
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor,

I heard them say, love is the way
Love is the answer, that’s what they say

But look how they treat us, make us believers
We fight their battles, then they deceive us

Try to control us, they couldn’t hold us
‘Cause we just move forward like Buffalo soldiers

[Bridge]
[Chorus]

Gearing up for World Cup 2014: Waka Waka

June 4th, 2014

World Cup 2014 is almost here and I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

I will be incorporating World Cup-related music into my Zumba classes all World Cup long (June 12 – July 13, 2014). Here’s the first and most obvious: Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) by Shakira. It was the official song of FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

If you haven’t already used Waka Waka in your Zumba classes, time to choreograph a routine! (Watch the video below, and half your choreography is done!)

If you retired Waka Waka from your Zumba playlist, time to bring it out of retirement!

Do yourself a favor and watch the video, again! (Shakira’s beloved, Gerard Piqué of Spain, is the first footballer featured… Awww!)
